Featured: New single from Lisa Cuthbert – “This Kind of Sin”

Lisa Cuthbert, whom you may know as the new lead vocalist for ISON, has launched the first of several singles from her forthcoming solo album, Paramour. This fascinating and fixating track can be heard heard below, and you can buy it at her Bandcamp here.

Press Statement:

“Irish singer-songwriter LISA CUTHBERT is set to release her new single, “This Kind of Sin,” on April 19th, commemorating the 10th anniversary of her critically acclaimed album “Paramour.” This single release marks the beginning of a series aimed at revisiting the narratives of survivors of the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland, where countless women endured abuse and exploitation, cloaked in the guise of moral correction. Through her music and visual artwork, Cuthbert delves into themes of memory, trauma, and resilience, seeking to deepen her understanding and commitment to these crucial issues.

“This Kind of Sin” stands out for its dark, haunting melody and profound bass that reverberate through the listener’s core, accompanied by tribal drums echoing in a vast cathedral space. The track was recorded between St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny, Ireland, and her home studio, The Hexcave. It builds momentum throughtout, leading to a driving, post-rock peak filled with organ, guitar, synths, and Lisa’s harmonized vocals that resemble a choir of women, creating a rich and enveloping listening journey.

The artwork reflects the fleeting nature of life, encapsulating the journey towards freedom and empowerment.

“I wanted to create a visual representation that mirrors the transformative journey from pain to liberation,” says Cuthbert. “The artwork features a shrouded figure emerging from the fog, with faint outlines of butterfly wings, symbolizing growth, change, and empowerment – themes central both to the survivor narratives and my own artistic and personal evolution.”

“This Kind of Sin” invites listeners to embark on a reflective journey, highlighting the transformative power of music and storytelling in confronting and healing from past traumas, both individually and collectively.

Listeners can pre-save “This Kind of Sin” on all platforms for a chance to win a limited edition CD single featuring the original artwork. To pre-save and for more information, visit https://listen.lisacuthbertmusic.com/hexcave.”
